LAS VEGAS, NV – Shelby American will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary Shelby Super Snake by bringing the newest version of the iconic car to Oklahoma for the Mid America Ford and Shelby Nationals. The event, which will take place in Tulsa on June 14-18, 2017, will feature various activities including thrill rides, hot laps, a car show and cruise-in.
Oklahomans will have their first look at the 50th Anniversary Super Snake, which connects the best features from the 1967 and 2007 models to create the most exciting version yet. Based on the Ford Mustang GT, the 2017 Super Snake includes incredible features such as a supercharged version of Ford’s iconic 5.0 V8 engine, enhanced suspension, upgraded brakes with massive calipers and rotors and Shelby exclusive styling.
“The 1967 Super Snake version of the Mustang had astonishing capabilities for its time,” said Gary Patterson, President of Shelby American. “That tradition continues with our newest Shelby Super Snake, which has evolved over the past five decades. Carroll spent lots of time in Tulsa during his life, so we can’t wait to share this fantastic new car somewhere he really enjoyed.”
Enthusiasts of all levels and walks of life will find something to satisfy their craving for performance from Shelby American while at the event. Select vehicles including the Shelby Super Snake, Shelby Terlingua Mustang and Shelby F-150, will be featured at various venues for thrill rides and hot laps. Shelby Performance Parts will also have a display at the track.
Patterson will make history when he gets behind the wheel to burn up the track. He is one of the few car company presidents in the world who regularly shares his true “need for speed” on the track, giving thrill rides and demonstrating the capabilities of the vehicles being shown at the event.
“This is not a job at Shelby American, it’s a passion,” said Patterson. “All of us share a hunger for performance, whether that means burning up the drag strip, cutting the apex on a road course, mudding through a bog or enjoying a cruise night. We’re thrilled to return to Tulsa to give people an experience that they will never forget.”
The Shelby Super Snake will also be a key participant in the scenic cruise to one of Tulsa’s hot spots, the Historic Brady Arts District. Patterson will help lead the drive on Thursday night.
Mid America Ford and Shelby Nationals will close out the event with a car show on Sunday at the Southern Hills Marriott Hotel.
